Breaking Down the Barriers: Health literacy, communication and health services
In April 2012, the NSW Health Literacy Network — a collaboration between the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission, Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care, NSW Health Care Complaints Commission and the School of Public Health, The University of Sydney — held a seminar on health literacy.
This seminar featured the work and experience of Dr Rima Rudd, Health Literacy Expert, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA. The day was aimed at assisting health services with strategies to assess and remove barriers to health literacy, and supporting health care professionals to improve communication with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and other vulnerable groups.
The ACSQHC would like to thank the National Health Call Centre Network for funding the videotaping of the seminar.
