A Guide for Dental Practices has been designed to assist dental practices assess their compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.  It primarily focuses on the process of accreditation and explains the key steps in an accreditation process.  The Guide provides examples of evidence that could be used to demonstrate the Standards have been met and additional resources to assist dental practices prepare for accreditation.  It is aimed at those responsible for coordinating accreditation processes.  This may be a practice manager, principal dental practitioner or quality manager who is responsible for supporting improvement activity in a dental practice and collating the outcomes of these processes for accreditation.

Addendum – A Guide for Dental Practitioners (Pages 2 and 8).A previous version of the Guide stated that private dental practices in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and Tasmania (TAS) were to be accredited to the NSQHS Standards.

The Commission would like to clarify that:

  • in the ACT the requirement for accreditation of private dental practices that undertake sedation is under consideration. This includes the regulatory mechanism and consultation processes that would be needed for this to occur.
  • accreditation of private dental practices in Tasmania is voluntary.
